Grandma's Apple Sauce Cookies...hmm hmm good!

3/4 stick of butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup applesauce
1-3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup crushed corn flakes
1/2 cup raisins

Lightly grease  baking sheets, set aside. Preheat oven to 370°.  Cream first four ingredients together in large mixing bowl.  Add dry ingredients, mixing well.  Drop by tablespoonful about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake approximately 10 minutes until brown on edges, caution do not over bake. Remove and cool on wire rack.  Makes about 2-1/2 dozens. Cookies may be frozen.

ANDREWS CHARMING SQUARES

2-3/4 Cups all-purpose flour
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup shortening
2-1/4 cup light brown sugar
3 eggs
1 cup chopped nuts (any favorite kind will do)
1 package semi-sweet chocolate morsels

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Melt shortening, add brown sugar. Stir well, cool slightly. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add dry ingredients, nuts and chocolate. Pour into a greased 9" square pan ( or equivalent size), bake 350° oven for 20-35 minutes. Check for doneness by testing with a toothpick in the center, if toothpick is clean, then squares are done. Cut into squares when completely cooled.
